Job Description

Job title: Traffic Control Manager

Department: Safety

Position Objective:  The Traffic Control Manager is responsible for preparing, implementing, and managing the Prime Contractor’s Traffic Management Plan and sub-plans. This includes reviewing, evaluating, and approving the details in the Traffic Control Plan, including the traffic control layouts. The project position duration is for one year and is located in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Oversee, participate and Monitor the implementation, execution and effectiveness of the project Traffic Control Plan

- Performs ongoing reviews of the project Traffic Management Plan to ensure that it remains current

- Participates in any required modifications of the project Traffic Management Plan as required based on changes to construction schedule, accommodation of special events, and any changes to sub-plans

- Verifies daily traffic control logs are completed and maintained

- Liaise with external agencies such as Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) and any jurisdictional authorities

- Exercises full authority over all Traffic Control Persons (TCPs) working on the project

- Finalizes traffic control measures with the project Traffic Engineer where these are required by the Road Authority or the standards set out in the British Columbia Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways

- Sets up and implements a monitoring schedule for both active and inactive work periods throughout the course of the project

- Directs various sub elements of the project Traffic Control Plan such as: Incident Management Plan, Public Information Plan and Implementation Plan

- Attends regular meetings with the Road Authority Representative on behalf of the project to discuss project performance, issues, and plans

- Participate in the subcontractor management process with any subcontractors engaged in Traffic Control activities on the project

- Responsible for implementation of traffic control-related training for both mandated and site-specific topics in a formal training format

Required Qualifications:

  • At least ten (10) years of experience in the Traffic Control industry within the last fifteen (15) years.

  • Participation in the capacity of a Traffic Control Supervisor for at least two 2 years.

  • Individuals must possess supervisory experience in the Traffic Control industry within an urban environment.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and shifts

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

  • Possess strong computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office including MS word, MS Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in large scale construction projects

  • Must carry valid British Columbia Traffic Control Person training certificate

  • Leadership for Safety Excellence or equivalent

  • Degree or diploma in a related field i.e HSE or OH&S

  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written formats


  • Action oriented and full of energy for things that may seem challenging
